"The sky is falling!"
Room B had a big treat last week. We got to watch a special play put on by two reading groups. It was called 'Chicken Licken'. We especially liked how the group used clear voices and kept their books down from their faces. They did a super job!

Cheeky Kea
Kea are large parrots that live in the South Island
high country, sometimes venturing down to valley floors.
Their call is a ringing ‘keee-aa’. Playful and
inquisitive, they can be destructive around ski fields
and campsites, vandalising or stealing unattended items.
In the past kea gained an undeserved reputation as sheep
killers and many were shot. Since 1986 they have been
fully protected by law.

A hedgehog comes to visit...
Around our new toliet block there was a special visitor ... A hedgehog! Mrs Bing rescued him from a hole in the ground and then brought him into Room B so we could see what he was like. After that she gave him a new home on the field.
We were very interested and asked lots of questions! We learnt that they like to live in dark places and they have spikes to protect them from predators.
Super Certificates
Look at these fantastic learners who have been following the yellow part of the Rainbow. They have both been making great choices in the classroom and trying very hard with their learning. Keep it up guys!
Interesting Sharing
On Friday for sharing these two learners brought in some very interesting things to share with the class.
Here is Cate with her bull horn! She was able to show us the part where it was in the bulls head. Her brother got it and let her bring it in to share.
Here is Kaea with his thunder rock. He has had it since he was very young.
It is great to see people bringing in some different things for sharing!

Pipe Cleaner People
Today at reading time some of us made our very own pipe cleaner people. It was pretty tricky! We had to cut the pipe cleaners in the right places and twist them to make the arms and legs. Another tricky part was threading the buttons on for the hands and feet. We learnt that we just had to keep trying to get them looking like people. I can't wait to see the rest of Room B's pipe cleaner people!
Holiday News
Everyone in Room B had a great holiday. Here are some stories about what we got up to ...

Athletics 2013!
On Friday the 5th of April Manchester Street School had their Athletics Day. It was a fantastic day, the whole school was out on the field taking part in lots of different activities. The most important thing about the day was that we all tried our hardest and did the best that we could!

Look who came to visit us on Friday...
Mr Wheeler, our principal.
We sent him a special card to say thank you for a great show on Tuesday and he came to say thank you to us!
Super Learners!
These people have been trying so hard to follow the Rainbow that they got certificates! Well done :)
We got the Enviro Award for doing such a great job as the Power Rangers. We will try really hard to keep up the good work.
This amazing rainbow learner was the FIRST person in the Junior Team to get the Harold Friendship Award. We are very proud of him.
Enviro Day with Mrs Cowan
Here are some photos from our Enviro Day last Monday. We learnt so much from Mrs Cowan.
Here we are checking out our litterless lunches. We are all trying hard to make less rubbish.
We are the Power Rangers!! It is our job to check lights are off at lunch time and to turn them off if they aren't.
We went out into our class garden. It is VERY dry. We need some rain so the plants don't die.
At the end of the day we drew some NZ ABC pictures.
Thanks Mrs Cowan for a great day!!
